Most email systems bounce attachments over about 10 MB, which is why PDF compression exists. This does it locally: the pages are re-rendered at a lower image quality on your machine until the file is a sensible size, then handed straight back to you. A confidential document never travels to a compression service.

Questions
Is the PDF sent to a server to be compressed?
No. The pages are rendered and re-encoded by your own browser, which is exactly why you can safely put a payslip or a legal document through it.
How much smaller will it get?
Scanned documents and photo-heavy PDFs often drop by 60 to 90 per cent. A PDF that is mostly text is already efficient and may barely shrink at all.
Will the text still be selectable afterwards?
Heavier compression re-renders pages as images, so selectable text can be lost. Use the lightest setting that gets you under the limit if searchable text matters.
Is there a maximum file size?
Nothing imposed by us. Compression is the most memory-hungry job here, so a 200 MB scan will be slow on a phone and much happier on a laptop.
