Does my photo get uploaded here?
No. It is resized on a canvas inside your browser. The only place it gets uploaded is Instagram, when you decide to post it.
What size should an Instagram post be?
1080 by 1080 for square, 1080 by 1350 for portrait — which takes up the most feed space — and 1080 by 1920 for stories and reels.
Will Instagram re-compress it anyway?
It will, but starting from the right dimensions means it re-compresses rather than rescales, which is what causes the soft, mushy look on wrongly sized uploads.
Can I do this on my phone before posting?
Yes, and that is the usual way to use it — resize in Safari or Chrome, save to the camera roll, then open Instagram.
